Well looking at past exams till now they are getting harder and im sure thats no secret..

So if someone was to score all 80s in 2005 and someone was to get all 80s now im guessing that the UAI will be higher now?

My point is if someone puts their current marks into Sam which is 2005 or 2006 wont their UAI be pushed higher up then whats given to us in SAM?

Due to the aligning process the marks that you get are set to a standard so that 85 this year would be the same as 85 last year (at least that is the official line).

As for exams getting harder - I have seen no evidence of this over the last 17 years - if anything they are getting easier and the marking is certainly getting easier in my experience e.g. when I started marking Modern History you had to make sure that you used BOTH sources and your own knowledge to get more than 2 out of 10. Now you can get at least 6 out of ten with only one source and really good own knowledge (and on rare occasions even push for 7).

The same with Personalities - what was getting 6 out of 10 five years ago would have be given 7/8 out of 10 last year.

The questions are about the same as they often are repeated questions.

I would say a UAI with the same makes in this year would be lower then 2006, but for opposite reasons; exams and marking are easier. I believe also aligning is increasing; the HSC judges are braudening the range of what is a band 6 standard answer - but this, I believe, shouldn't effect your UAI since your raw mark is used to determine your UAI.
