Just wondering how many related texts you will be preparing for your Area of Study. I've heard of people doing from 1 to about 7 and I'm confused. Unconfuse me. Cheers.

2 (TWO) related materials are enough for the exam, however they must be in different text types. You can't have both of them in poems, movies, lyrics etc etc. However, if you prescribed Journey text is poem, there is no problem of having a poem as your related materials.

During exam conditions, you may run out of time for having more than 2 related materials anyway. In 45 minutes, you have to include the prescribed text, stimulus booklet and your related materials, all in depths. It's very very time consuming.

Hope this helps :)

Three ....
You only need two ishq. The guy from the HSC Advice Line told me two will be enough. Under exam conditions, you will need to write down so much and using three related texts will probably make yourself stress more and make the whole thing worse.

Discuss two texts in depths then it should be able to score you good marks.

Yeah *sigh*....i have spent quite a lot of time during the holidays debating that one issue.
I have narrowed my list of related materials down to three. Of those three, one, which is a novel, is finalised - but im tossing between the other two.
One is a feature article and the other is a movie. Both would contrast really good with my my compulsory text - in terms of context, values, and definition of the journey - And i dont know which to pick.

I keep leaning towards the movie as it is a visual text, but the feature article has real substance - and...well i dont know.
So, i decided to start with three - and that is how my essay currently stands.

What do you think?

This has ben raised a number of times:

ONE stimulus book text
TWO own related material, though i'd have ONE MORE up my sleeve incase the other two texts dont suit the question.
ALSO, your prescribed text.
Gough Whitlam is right, you only have enough time to do two texts in enough detail, along with your prescribed and stimulus texts.
