Whats the mathematics behind that wonderful cube?

Does anyone know how to solve them without either

a) Randomly rotating the block

b) Ripping the squares off and rearanging them to work

I think it's more logic and memory based than mathematical.

Whenever I've seen anyone solve it, they didn't solve it because they did an amazing mathematical formulatic calculation.

once you know how to solve the cube its really not that amazing anymore.

i know this guy who can do it in 20 seconds.

he'll make his way into this thread.

Well how do you think they did it?

Mathematical algorithms are pretty much logic.

hello kurt physics
the only closely related branch behind solving the cube is possibly series and sequences lol....
but in all seriousness, i can do the cube... i taught myself using the internet, took bout 2 weeks, and then it is purely memory based. at first took me about 5 mins to get it downpacked, now my PB is 56 seconds. to do the cube it is just a patternistic way of turning the cube.... check this site out if u wan2 learn, its gun:

It's quite easy to solve you just need to memorise some steps. the real challenge is to get it fast.

a more interesting question would be: which configurations of stickers would be unsolvable

Actually there are many configurations that are unsolvable (only 1 in 12 of the permutations of the cube will actually be solvable). The problem lies in the fact that there are no algorithms that can flip one edge or one corner only.

to make a rubik cube unsolvable just switch the stickers of a two sided edge
