Is it true:

- No more than one (1) engine modification?

- Are body mods (Sunroof, Mags, Lowered suspension) class as mods and how many can i have?

Take it to your nearest qualified installation/updater place.
Make sure they specialise in Commodores.

oh I see, lol I guess I need to start looking for a place like that, haha I never knew cars had firmwares ... lol I guess you learn something new everynight

Yeah. Apparently they just hook a cable up to your cars ECU and download some later firmware and it can give up to 30% more performance.

The law states, No supercharges,turbo's, v8's or banned 6's, and if it needs to be engineered than it is illegal under the new P1 law. You can do as many exterior mods as you want, although most are illegal. Pretty much under the law of a registered vehicle, any legal modification isn't worth doing, alot of shit is illegal, more so than you would think.

lmao that is the funniest car related thing ive ever heard. what a load of shit. cars dont have 'firmware'. cars have ECU's, which can be reprogrammed.

I agree, its not as simple as just downloading the latest "firmware". With todays ECU's there biggest job is calculating the fuel flow for the amount of air thats being supplied to the engine, what they usually do is modify the computer to allow a bigger intake of air and fuel to gain horsepower.

Some people refer to CVT software as being called 'firmware'... but that could just be something I picked up along the way when reading American sites. Is that different to the ECU? Btw have any of you guys modified ECUs before? My cousins modified their ECUs on all the cars; but couldn't find people to remove speed limiters.

Back on topic, i thought we aren't allowed to do performance modifications under new laws;

I don't get why you guys are laughing at him... I mean, from the end-user perspective; that is what it looks like. You drive to the place, they hook up their computer stuff to your car, a few weeks later, you bring your car back, and then they install the new software, and that's it.

As for the 30% more performance... I'd say it depends heavily on the car. My cousin whinged that the performance gain in his 328 wasn't worth the money he paid for the "German tuning" which was advertised as being "AC Schnitzer tuning".

Any ECU reprogramming focuses on mainly two things - ignition maps, and fuel maps. Looking at it in the most basic fashion, ignition timing is advanced, in keeping with the constant use of 98 octane, to prevent detonation. That's all you can do through the ECU. Cars that are already made to run on good fuel (~92) don't experience more than a 5% (10% max.) gain.

30% is in the realm of turbo charging. That's all I meant.
