Gday,

I was wondering whether anyone can give me the lowdown on what a secondary storage system is?

And what other alternatives there are to using them.

Cheers
Jackson

Yes,
just think secondary storage mediums as portable devices.
Anything that is commonly carried around.
Well, u can carry hard disk around[o_O] and they have large storage space, but its not common and besides
HDDs are primary storage medium.
Also magnetic tapes:
#do not allow direct data access
#Not practical to use when accessing data frequently.
But..
#Contains large storage space, good for backing up data that will not be touched.

Just an ''external'' hard disk drive...its still considered primary storage medium (quite controversial)......if USB wire is connected to USB port then u can call it ''online storage'' if its not connected then it will be called ''offline storage''

A computer is advertised as having a 120gb HDD, 512Mb RAM and a 2.4GHz Processor. What does this mean?

c) It has about 120 billion bytes of primary storage, about 512 million bytes of secondary storage and the CPU processes some 2.4 billion instructions per second.

d) It has about 120 million bytes of secondary storage, about 512 billion bytes of primary storage and the CPU processes some 2.4 billion instructions per second.

I say C the teachers say D... who's right?

Gb is greater than Mb....so 120 Gb must be a billion while 512 Mb must be a million...so i'd say that C is the correct answer!

sorry i dont have an exact logic...the no's are too big for me to count :s.....the above is my logic :p
