i would say don't drop. maths is a pretty vital subject as it is relevant in a lot of other subjects indirectly (chem, physics, bio, eco, business, etc.) also, to be completely honest, i think unis would rather see you doing some type of maths than no maths at all. you are only in year 10, don't be so hard on yourself! get a good tutor, spend extra time working at it, and make a decision after you try your very best. you got this!

mmm im pretty sure that nsw just does core & pathway now for 7-10
Well in that case I don’t really know the equivalent of core and pathway to the old syllabus I did but I reckon just try keeping math and if it gets really bad in yr11 and 12 then u can drop it

i am, im asking if its possible for me to get recommended to not do maths at all in year 11 & 12
I mean it is possible if u do really really bad, but it also depends on how strict ur school is. But you'll be fine and u passed the linear exam so I think u will be ok

honestly i dont do well in exams because of the pressure. i always end up crying mid way and wasting half an hour, im surprised my school hasnt told my parents that they think im neurodivergent or something.. anyways its quite unfortunate how ur performance on a paper determines most of your grade huh

that's ok, I don't really do well under exam pressure either. But if u feel like ur understanding the concepts and just can't do them well under time conditions u can still explain this to the school because as long as u understand the consequences, being able to do exams under pressure and timed conditions is smth that u can work on and get better at, so that shouldn't determine whether u should drop math or not. Like I also deal with lots of anxiety in exams so ur not alone

if it makes you feel better in one way or another:
the girl in my school that literally got a 23% overall last yr in 5.3 maths who was selective (partially selective school) came first in: english, history, food tech and pe (and 2nd in commerce) and ended up duxing yr 10 and is most likely to dux this yr since shes doing all the subejects shes excellent at (hospo, business, legal, math std, eng ext, eng adv, bio)

ironically shes still doing math (math standard 2)

so what im trynna get to is: it doesnt matter how you're doing in one subejct just lock in for the rest and do good in them
in saying that: im not advocating for you to go burn out and be dux im just saying its a 'meh' if you're failing math

Hey, I'm really sorry that you feel that way about maths, because honestly I think it's a pretty great subject that's very different to most other subjects in senior years (personally, I find that doing maths is a lot more straightforward than other subjects, because everything's set out for you). It's totally fine if you don't feel that way, though

Do you know what's preventing you from performing well? Exam pressure is one thing, but are you having a lot of trouble understanding the concepts in class, or just finding it difficult to apply them to questions? If it's the former, then getting more help could be the way to go - you can try asking your teacher to clarify things, or if they're not helpful enough, then a tutor might be a good option if you're open to continuing maths. If it's the latter, how much time do you spend doing maths exercises? I get that they can be boring and repetitive, but they expose you to lots of question types. In exams, this can be immensely helpful because if you've seen similar questions before, it'll take a lot of pressure off and allow you to approach them more confidently. High school maths really just boils down to practice in the end, and if you're willing to put the time in, you'll most likely be able to improve your results :shoot:

Wow that was a lot of text, sorry! I hope it helped though. Don't give up on maths just yet!!

ive always taken a long time to understand subjects (especially math) its not that i intentionally procrastinate; im just a slower learner. ill admit that my homework performance hasnt always been consistent because of this. im not trying to say that math is a terrible subject, actually, i appreciate its straightforward nature half the time. but balancing it with other subjects i also find challenging can be overwhelming, and I often struggle to keep up. btwbtw, i spoke to my mum last night and we have plans on arranging a tutor and some other things to help me out
++thank you soosso much for the words of motivation HAHA i was stressing tf out when i posted this
