So I just finished preliminary course for English Advanced and I got a course total of 58% which I was quite disappointed with however I did well in my yearlies as I ranked 23/44. But then again my overall rank was 30/44 students in advanced. So that brings me to the question, would I be more well suited to drop down to standard and try aim for 80s-90s then just merely passing in advanced? Is it difficult to obtain an atar of above 80 with general maths and english standard?

Never drop from adv to standard. It will ruin your ATAR as standard scales so bad. Only like 0.43% of the standard populace receive a band 6! Be honest with me, did you study as best as you could? Did you try as hard as you can in advanced, and still fucked up? If yes, then drop. If no, there is room for improvement. And TBH the texts are better! To answer your question, it is very possible to receive an 80 with standard, but you will have to do relatively well, so a high 70 - there is no room to fuck up. If you do, you have to smash your other subjects. Honestly, dont drop. 45% of the content you share with advanced anyway as the first paper is the same.

At the end of the day, you do what you are comfortable with. If you do drop, make sure you rank among the top. Talk with ur teachers about it first.

NEVER just do advanced. Extension 2 is the only way to go. I suggest you just do studies at this point.

No stick with Advanced. They are of a very similar difficulty, but the aligningis a lot better in Advanced.

Dw about the mark you get in school a better way to judge is how you do relative to to others. Doing standard isn't as bad as people are making it out to be but advanced does have a small advantage over it so I recommend you keep it.

+1 scaling is pretty similar but aligning is a huge difference. ie need a higher raw mark in standard to get the same final mark in comparison to advanced
