Hey guys,

I have only recently discovered that most of the section 3 questions for change require two or more texts. I have somehow managed to get though all of my assessments and exams without copping a question like this.

So, after reading one of the posts regarding related texts, i have decided to use Shrek for changing self.

I have a few questions for those people who may know a bit more than me....

What sort of techniques have your teachers recommended to you to show that a change (prefferably changing self) has occured?

Are there any specific quotes that your teachers pointed out??

(I want to just say that i have watched the movie a few times, for the purpose of finding techniques, etc, but im just trying to cover all the bases by checking for important stuff that i may be missing.... I am not not taking the easy way out)

And on a more general note, do u guys find it hard to discuss so many texts in section 3??? Im doing Harwood, so that means 2-3 poems, text from the changing stimulus booklet, and then TWO related texts.... Thats 5-6 texts in about 40 mins... How does anyone get any depth in their writing??

Cheers

I have used it for changing perspectives, but here are some things I mentioned that might help get you started.
1. Initially, Shreks resistance to change is symbolised by the stagnation of the swamp, He must leave this state (by leaving the swamp) to find true happiness with Fiona.
2. Fiona begins as the only character to (seriously) use the Elizabethan tongue, while most other characters use modern cliches etc, which I felt was indicitive of her conditioning to fairy tale cliches such as the longing for Prince Charming. The gradual change in her speech to a more modern dialect parallels her evolution as a purpose, also the inevitability of her transformations could refer to the inevitability of change.

Shrek would be pretty cool to use as a related text =). So would Shrek 2 I guess, though I don't know what you could relate that too.

I know this thread is quite old, and I stumbled across this through another thread which is so not related to this one, but my teacher always said that its better to discuss a few texts in detail than many texts in brief. So the poems, like 2 or 3 at the max poems is sufficient and 1 text from stimulus and you can get away with even just 1 related text or 2 if you have time.
