Its the start of 2006's HSC and we have began are Area of Study on Journeys. We have been already given are first assessment task a speech where we are asked to discuss TWO Peter Skrzynecki poems from Immigrant Chronnicle (I was thinking of doing Migrant Hostel and either Immigrants at Central Station 1951 or Crossing the Red Sea) and a Song. We were told the song had to connect\relate to the poems some how and since the poems are on the immigrant experience i guess i would need a song on the immigrant experience.

I am posting here only after i have exerted all other resources including google and a number of other sources and was hoping the good students at BOS could help me out, i would be great full for any help offered.

P.S. The song\poems need to be on Physical Journeys.

Alright champ, i'm in the same boat as you and I have been looking around...
the thing I found in the first and last 5 minutes i will look for supplementary stuff to do with skrzynecki's poems however The Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin is about a physical journey undertaken by warriors and not necessarily immigrants but the lyrics do resemble first impressions that one feels as they first find a new land etc. Meh, give it a look I was only lookin around and came accross it. see what you think.

i like songs, they stick in your head so if your stuck you just start singing in your head and just make it up..
i might use On the road again- willie nelson... it was in a revision book i was using it sounds easy enough

I did skrzynecki last year and oh my, what a boring piece of shit! I would recommend not using a song at all costs.

and by the way, good luck on your quest, or should I say...physical journey!

Well when the task states that you need TWO Peter Skrzynecki poems from Immigrant Chronnicle and ONE song, its a bit hard avoiding it.

Try "home is where the heart is" by John Butler Trio. It's about refugees n stuff, so it shood be a good resource for you.

Hard working people from another land
looking for a little more
Coming to this country for a helping hand
You know they sail their ships upon these shores
And they are lookin for a freedom
that most of us don't appreciate
But you know man we can't let them in
Coz the government's full of racial hate

And then they go the nerve to say
They be takin our culture away
even though our ancestors tried to do the same to the Aborigine
Seems strange to me man strange to me
Don't it seem strange to you
That a country founded on immigration
is so damned racist too

And i say Home
Home is where the heart is
yeah Home

And then they go the nerve to say
they be takin our jobs away
Even though half the jobs that we're working for
are owned from overseas
and the other half of the companies
Yes Yes that they say that we rightly own
They operate on aisle three third world
That's right yeah the sweat shop zone

And I say I don't know what's going on
Don't know what the hell to say
The government decides on letting refugees in
and when they get here yes they are detained

And i don't know what's going on
Don't know the reason why
We live in an educated so called democracy
Where everybody decides to believe in lies
Believe in lies

Home is where the heart is yeah
Home.
