Obviuosly you've chosen the wrong text if you've found it hard to talk about the techniques :) nonetheless, here is a few points to help you get started anyway.

+Look at why a cartoon may be used and not real live actors
+I'm assuming there is some form of mythological creature in the movie: what culture/ethnicity does this allude to?
+How is the movei structured? chronological order/flashbacks of someones life/snippets of future images etc
+Colours: These play an important role in cartoons. Is there colour symbolism use (ie. good = blue, evil = red)? Is colour used typically (ie. brown cow, green grass)?
+Is there music to illustrate a special scene, like to indicate to the responder the proptagonists soliloquy? What role does music have in the movie?
+Camera angles: this site will help you - http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Documents/short/gramtv.html and what it acheives

Firstly,

A lot of it has to do with the japanese style of storytelling, that is implicit unlike the western style of explicit.

If you think of it as a Japanese adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, it will make a lot more sense to you.

Will help you a lot more than i can atm :)

Good luck.
