I'm really curious considering the talk of state ranks and the like. There's always heaps on Bio, Chem, Maths, etc, but nothing on subjects like these.

Does anyone know what the final HSC mark would be to achieve a rank in this subject? (like 97, 98, 99, etc).

Thanks.

To get a state rank, you have to get close to 98-100 in the exam including your PIP. So that means nothing wrong in the exam plus a flawless PIP. I know someone who got a state rank and she blitzed the exam and got full marks in the her PIP. So your looking at pretty much perfection

Late reply here! Last year I got 97 and didn't state rank in S&C. Looking at the distribution of marks I got with my HSC results, first in the state last year got 98. So make of that what you will. I'm guessing once scaling came into it it was a decimal points decision. Obviously it changes from year to year though :)

I came 2nd in 2011 with a 98 (99 external, 96 internal). 97 in 2011 was 10th in the state. However, this year the top mark was 100 and a 98 wasn't a state rank

My sis got a 99 and that ranked her 10th in NSW overall in 2009.
Its gotta be pretty high... but I know a girl who came 5th with a mark of 99 last year...
So it all depends on the cohort of NSW students...

I would agree from a 98 - 100. You have to be ranked 1st in your school and getting near 100 % averages. It flutuates obviously but you'd have to get a 99 or 100 to probably be safely on a top 10 state ranking. As some of you said 98 or 99 was only 10th. If a lot of people get this mark, they'll look at your other hsc subject marks to determine who deserves to get 1st place as opposed to 2nd place. Otherwise it would be too difficult.
