A STUDENT has lost his bid to avoid sitting university exams on the basis he suffered from anxiety.

Computer science student Fahd Alwadi accused the University of NSW of discrimination after it refused his request to double his assignment mark or complete a take-home exam in lieu of him sitting an exam.

The postgraduate engineering science student had enrolled in the computer science courses in 2014.

As part of the course, Mr Alwadi was required to sit for an examination or some other form of supervised assessment.

However, the Civil and Administrative Tribunal heard Mr Alwadi had requested alternatives to exams as he suffered from anxiety, high blood pressure and palpitations After the university rejected his request to "double his assignment mark" or allow him to complete a take-home exam or research project in lieu of sitting an exam, Mr Alwadi made a complaint to the Anti-Discrimination Board.

The matter ended up in the tribunal after board president Stepan Kerkyasharian rejected the student's complaints on the basis that they were "lacking in substance".

Typical arab - when something doesn't go his way, he pulls out the racist/discrimination card
