Not sure how the numbers work.

Though I find that that within a certain school, the numbers continue with the surname.

Yes, that's simply a matter of what order students are entered into the system, as each school coordinator will just type in off the list which is pre-sorted.

We get called in last student number first, so it's nearly in reverse alphabetical order until I go in last. And they do it every single time.

Most of our school's started with not only 200 but '2001' actually. That led me to believe it was the year, but apparently not. *shrugs* I have no such sense of curiosity.

Most of the people in my school had 20xxxxx. I was accelerated last year so I have 19xxxxxxx- which is a bad thing because i have to sit in the front row for every exam until probably the HSC.

First 2 digits is the year

mine started with 15, in '03
so now they're 19 or 20

the next 2 go by school or region, at my school they were all 64

the last 4 are within your school or region

Your student number remains the same, but I'm not sure about centre number. (My school doesn't run an HSC exam centre so I don't know if SC and HSC centre numbers are the same.)
