ot of my 4 tutes, 3 of them so far (havent had econ110 yet) are all student teachers it seems, got a queer teacher who fiinished acturial degree and working on masters for acst101, got a chinese teacher for stat prac which basically acts as supervision, got a vietnamese lady for stat tut whose english is kinda rough and finally in accg100 i got a studend whose working on masters whose english is again, very rough....

When are we going to get real teachers? :vcross:

And also, how hard is eco in 2nd and 3rd year?

jsut had eco today and it looks like the Sh*t has hit the fan with the level of understandiong and work... same goes for acst101 accg100 and stat170 (lol all of em)

Most tutor's you'll find are students completing PhD's etc, so while they might not be qualified teachers, they know their shit. Its just a part of uni life. Some of them might be doing a combined DipEd and thus need practical experience and thats where tutes come in. In the end, tutes dont really matter because you dont learn anything new, its just reintegrating the stuff you learnt in lectures (with a real teacher ;)).

dont b too concerned with reading the textbook xtremely closely...its actually no point unless your not understanding things...in our monday tute, alex told us that the textbook should b used as an "encyclopaedia" i.e refer to the textbook when u have difficulty understanding some of the content in lectures...we dont use the entire textbok, large chunks are irrelevant...unfortunately i havent started making notes for econ, as im far too busy with otha subjects, but im understanding nearly everything so im not too worried...i dont think ill eva make notes for it :p

I didn't think student tutors were so common at Macq. One of my tutors is a student at Macq, and is completing some Ph.d in law or something. For some weird reason he always compares how the political system works to the plot of 'star wars'... But then, he's actually quite alright and very easy to get along with.

Most of the student teachers ive had were actually quite good. some of the female ones were pretty hot as well...

its just the luck of the draw i guess.

but then again some of the older 'real' teachers can be bad as well so i guess it all depends.

I had a hot substitute accg tutor today. First and only time I will like the 8am start. Unless he's there again.

As for the rest of them, my econ tutor is a Dr. but she's got really bad hair, stats tutor is an actuarial guy who tries really hard to crack jokes and has a pointer for the overhead and the prac guy just said this is what you do, you don't have to come, you can leave if you want. Needless to say I didn't come back this week.

True, to a degree... I find the psych ones are pretty good - they mostly (all in my experience, except for the lecturers who end up doing some pracs) seem legitimately interested in our success.. or maybe they're just pulling some tricky psych stuff over our eyes.. ;)

(or maybe it just looks good on their psych-based resume to have taught and mentored the subject, of course..)
