I am capable of doing English Advanced but I do not need english for the uni courses I want to get into and I'm also not interested in it. I'm currently in the top 20 for english, would it be better for me to do standard or advanced? How hard is it to get a high mark in Standard

You do Advanced because it is ridiculously hard to get a Band 6 in Standard and there's little to absolutely no reason to do Standard if you can do Advanced because it's the same workload essentially.

And why do you have to drop one in year 12?

Definitely keep advanced English because you will be at a greater advantage to score well (and you are doing well at it, as you say). With regard to your other subjects, that is a choice you will have to make on your own. Choose what fascinates you and you're good at!

DONT DO STANDARD. The difficulty between advanced and standard is minimal. In advanced you study more difficult texts, but the difficulty of the actual questions which you get asked on the HSC and trials is about equal. In my opinion, getting over 80 in standard is harder then getting over 80 for advanced english. Also, standard aligns poorly compared to advanced. For example, getting a raw mark of 80/105 in your HSC exam for standard might only align to a final HSC mark of 80/100. Whereas in advanced, a mark of 80/105 might align to a final HSC mark of 90/100. So really, in my opinion, standard english is a waste of time and potentially hazardous to your ATAR. This is especially the case for you considering you want to get over 92 for your ATAR

Do subjects that you enjoy and find interesting. Biggest mistake i made was picking subjects jsut cos i heard they scaled well. I find it really hard to study for the subjects I dont enjoy. I could do maths and economics all day because i enjoy them so much
