why so much hate for people who drive them in the city, and never use them off road?

They're big, block up lanes of traffic, use heaps of petrol, contribute massively to pollution (I know I'm a hypocrite), make parking a nightmare for other drivers (e.g. parking next to an SUV in a tight parking lot space is difficult!), etc...

But really it's not so bad. I don't think anything of it now. I'm more annoyed with noob drivers in the CBD. And those stupid cycling-taxis which come in through blind spots to overtake you in traffic at a red light but then the moment the light turns green everyone is stuck behind them.

They dont really use more fuel than most commodores etc
my dads turbo v8 landcruiser gets 11L/100km
colorados etc get like 8.5L/100km these days

But yes SUVs in the city are silly. driving one just makes things difficult for yourself. Ford territories etc are the worst things ever

Are those figures from city traffic driving though?

How about needing to leave a good 30-50m gap depending on speed between myself and the 4wd in front of me so that everyone else (ie oncoming traffic/people turning into or across my lane) can see me.

it's fucking unnecessary
