I do it quite often and it's pretty damn epic when you do.

My little tutorial is to get some music that makes you visualise things when you are awake (could be epic music, or simply classical music, it's entirely personal). Then go to bed with that playing on repeat (not too loud) and you lying there still as you can with your eyes closed just listening to it, while keeping your mind active and awake. Eventually you'll be able to just enter (so to speak) the dream :)
