I received my enrolment stuff in the mail today... I'm doing B Eng/Sci and my form says the classes ill be doing are:

ENGN1211, ENGN1217, ENGN1218 and there is also 4706XBSCI ... I dont understand what the science one means. In the session column there are numbers 2030 and 2060. What does this represent? When I tried to plug in these classes in the timetable builder all i could only find 1 in the list - ENGN1211.

I looked in the 2010 course planner booklet and it said that I would be doing classes ENGN1211 MATH1115 and PHYS1101 in B Eng/Sci. Why are these different to the ones on my form???? and is the first year science course already preset or do i choose what science course i want to do?

The Science code listed is a plan code, I believe, not actually a course. It's just there for some weird administrative reason - my first row reads Course Code: 4106XBSCI, Course Name: Science, Session: 4106BXARTS, Class No: Arts.

ENGN1217 and 1218 are Semester 2 courses, so they don't show up on the Semester 1 timetable.

I'm guessing the Maths and Physics courses aren't pre-selected on your form because you can choose different levels of them e.g. MATH1115 instead of 1013.

For Maths/Physics that would depend on the level of maths/physics you did in the HSC and whether you want to do the honours level courses or whatever.

Maths C is like NSW Extension 2/ACT Specialist, right? In that case then you can do 1115 and 1116. I haven't looked at the physics requirements (because I'm not doing it) but I think if you passed year 12 physics you can do Advanced Physics.

Yes that is what maths C is. I would not advise doing 1115 unless you intend to take higher pathway courses later in the degree.

Shay, you semester 1 and 2 are:
ENGN1211
MATH1013 (or 1115 if you feel clever)
PHYS1101
1000 level science

ENGN1217
ENGN1218
MATH1014 (or 1116 if you did 1115)
1000 level science

The 1000 level stuff will depend on what you want to pursue down the track, physics/chem/biol etc.

Yes, someone will be there when you enrol from your college (ANU, not residential) to guide you through everything. I copy pasted all of that from ANU - STUDYAT - Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science

Yes. The science elective preps you for what you intend to major in.

Also, I notice that Engineering (Research and development) requires you to take the advanced physics and maths courses which is what I think I would be doing anyway. What is the difference between the two courses then? I was apprehensive about taking the Engineering R&D as I am not sure if I would do so well with independent research and thought it would be too advanced. But now I see the outline it looks the same. Can I swap to R&D later in the year?

R&D is an honors stream essentially. You'd have to do higher pathway courses and require an 80% average or you get kicked out. Unless you are keen on research and possibly a PhD probably more trouble than it's worth. All of that is what I've been told by other students though, I have very little knowledge of what is actually involved in the phb/r&d programs. Hopefully someone else on here can give you more advice. Although I'm given to understand very few people are allowed to swap into the program.

Fill out a form. Done. They make you sit a mini test in the first week and if you don't get 100 they advice dropping down.

They've taken out the FINM2001 from the planner and added EMET1001 onto my enrolment form. Is this a mistake or is it intended? Anyone else having these troubles too?

Unless they've re-structured things, I'm certain that's a mistake. They'll fix it on the day. If you dive into the details, EMET1001 is normally required as part of a finance degree but since you are doing it combined with actuarial they ignore that requirement since you do stat2032. I don't know why they are equivalent in that regard.

You are supposd to download the PDF files from the website if you are an international student. Basically you just sort it all out on the day... there is an international orientation day on the 9th Feb from 9am - 3:30pm in the Manning Clark Centre (building 26A) Lecture theatres 1-6. This should cover the stuff that we got in our packs and more...
