Is there ever such a thing as too much figurative language, imagery or symbolism (in a creative writing piece)?
This is a bit general-but yes, it is possible to have too much of anything. If you want some assurance whether your creative has too much figurative language, feel free to send PM it to me and I can give you some comments on it:)

Yes, the aim is to show enough you don't tell, but don't show to the point your story becomes convoluted and unable to be understood.

Yes, consider the following sentence:

"The cotton like clouds floating in air amid a never-ending expanse of sky joining the lush, healthy green of the land, on which other expensive and lovely houses resided, together made a shape roughly similar to a conic section with an eccentricity less than one (or, an ellipse), with the rest of this figure being completed by the sparkly blue carpet inside its boundary, which stretched to the horizon, as if God had gotten bored on the third day."

Sounds a like an erotic novel
