There are two arguments that could be presented:
1) Tourist numbers to AUS will increase,
2) Tourist numbers to AUS will decrease.

1)- * Increased global exposure from advertising (eg the government's recent 'see Australia' ad campaign shown in Australia and abroad) and exposure from movies (Matrix, Mission Impossible 2)
* Reduced fear of terrorism, so international people more inclined to travel to AUS.
* Emergence of a middle class (meaning higher incomes and more tendency to travel) in India and China (the world's two most populous nations)- more possible tourists and Australia is seen as preferable tourist destination by the Chinese and Indians.
* Reduced Travel costs due to larger, faster and more fuel efficient aircraft (eg the Airbus A380-'super jumbo')

2) Alternatively you could argue:
* The fear from terrorism has in fact increased rather than decreased.
* Increased travel costs due to rising oil and hence aircraft fuel prices- I know this overlaps/contradicts my earlier point about cheaper air fares, but both are valid arguments.

When you're writing about this, be careful not to take just one side of the argument (eg Tourist numbers to Australia will increase). Because there are both negative and positive factors impacting on tourist numbers coming into AUS.

Hope that helps...
