tricky question!

hello!
just wondering if anyone knows how to answer this question im stuck on atm.....

in 1962,James Watson,Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the Nobel Prizein Medicine for identifying the structure of DNA. using examples, evaluae the impact of this discovery on current genetic technology
....
actually while im here can u also help with this question....

you have carried out first-hand investigations that have attempted to model biological conepts.

discuss the use and limitations to moldels when illustating biological concepts.

thanks ..:)

With this questions, the only investigations i remember are modelling natural selection and modelling the formation of polypeptides... but there are the same basic limitations when models are used.
>It oversimplifies the processes, produces misconceptions or inacuracies
>It can reduce a long time frame into a short one
>Simplifies structure, shape, colour in DNA
>Simplifies various stages in processes;the DNA molecule cannot show the process of unzipping for replication
>models that we use hav limited resources...
..................Just things like that, which i hope made sense

"in 1962,James Watson,Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the Nobel Prizein Medicine for identifying the structure of DNA. using examples, evaluae the impact of this discovery on current genetic technology"

Now for tihs question, you could mention the introduction of reproductive technologies such as cloning, and artificial insemination. Also transgenic species as the knowledge of how the actual DNA is structured led to scientists being able to isolate it, and use it. so obviously this was a major impant on current technology as it helped to advance it further. Something along those lines im sure is right. Sorry if this didnt really make sense im kind of tired

yeah for the watson and crick question you could relate it to scientists' reasearch into gene therapy in diseases such as cystic fybrosis as they look at manipulating the genetic code because they know where mutation occurs. also the recombinant DNA technology is possible because of the knowledge of the structure of DNA and the whole Human Genome Project where they map out the human genetic sequence

Is that question from the 2003 HSC paper? I can remember staring blankly at it..
