sorry if this is in the wrong section

this is gonna be such a dumb question but the answer i came up with isn't computing in my head:

so i've submitted my UAC application, and preferenced UTS as #1. they usually give out conditional offers so if i accept my conditional offer but don't get the atar i need to meet it, what happens? will i have to submit another application? will my #2 preferenced school reach out (in my case being UNSW) to make an offer? i am so confused. thank you in advance.

It seems like you are referring to an early entry scheme, which in UTS's case would either be the Schools Recommendation Scheme or the UTS Early Entry program. Both of these involve receiving a conditional offer with a reduced ATAR requirement. This means that in order to turn the conditional offer into an unconditional offer (i.e. an actual unrestricted offer that you can either accept or reject), you must meet the reduced ATAR requirement.

The other avenue is the standard ATAR pathway. Here, there is no conditional offer, as receiving an offer purely depends on whether you meet the ATAR/LSR requirement for the course, that is, you either receive an unconditional offer directly or not. No other elements are considered here, as opposed to the aforementioned schemes, which consider other elements such as year 11 results and school ratings.

The order of your UAC preferences reflects the course(s) that you are most interested in studying and the course(s) that you are less interested in studying, with your first preference essentially being your dream course. Your first preference will be prioritised. If you receive an offer for your first preference, your other preferences will not be considered and you will not receive an offer for any of them. However, if you are not made an offer for your first preference, your second preference will be considered, and so on.

I hope this helps! :D

wait so can i accept the conditional offer before i get my atar?
A conditional offer is not a full unrestricted offer, i.e. it is not an unconditional offer, so the notion of accepting/rejecting does not apply here. A conditional offer simply means that the university will make you a definite offer on the condition that you achieve a specified minimum ATAR. If you do, that will be when you receive an unconditional offer. That is the offer that you can accept or reject.
