i haven't even done my hsc yet but I'm just curious as to which one I should put as my top preference

usyd: I heard is full of prestigious white private school kids and the social life is dead?? (might not be true but idk that's what I've been hearing) but apparently the business school is better and more highly valued by employers?? also shorter travel time yanno
unsw: asians (my kinda of ppl) and better social life. I heard the business school is good too.

I honestly am kinda basing this off social life ( a lot of my friends wanna go unsw) but i also kinda wanna socialise and meet new people. Idk i need help

Both USyd and UNSW are considered to be very good universities, meaning that in principle you cannot go wrong with either university's Bachelor of Commerce. While I cannot comment directly on the accuracy of stereotypes such as that of USyd since I do not attend any of these universities (perhaps someone else could), I will note that all universities offer some kind of social life aspect, whether it be through clubs, societies and/or other events. It is therefore up to you to be involved and experience the social life aspect of the university that you end up attending. I would also suggest checking out the social life aspect of both USyd and UNSW, which could help you make a more informed decision.

Given that many of your friends want to attend UNSW, this could contribute to a better experience at UNSW since it is likely to make your transition to university less overwhelming. You are also definitely able to make new friends afterwards. Of course, this is not to suggest that you cannot also make new friends at USyd, just that, based on your thoughts, UNSW seems to have the edge here. The only remaining factor is commute, which, given the proximity of both universities, should not be much of an issue?

I hope this helps! 😄

As far as I am aware, in comparison to USYD, UNSW has a higher number who turn out to be high up in the big places within the field (CEO, CFO etc) ... hope that helps

For employability they're probably barely different, plus employability is about you not the uni

Regarding SOCIAL LIFE, I feel like every uni has a good one as long as u put in the effort to join/go to society events. I remember when I was enrolled in UNSW (before changing to MQ instead) I was gonna sign up for so many societies cos they had so many good ones, but so does USYD.

Honestly the choice doesn't really matter, if u go usyd and ur friends go unsw, u can attend any society event even if u don't go to that uni. Just pick whichever one is closer, or whichever looks cooler, or pick the one your friends are going to.

Hey do you guys think its worth doing USYD Commerce w Advanced Studies? Even though it prolongs your degree by a year?

Honestly depends on what field/job u wanna get into in the future and if the stuff u study in Advanced Studies will help.

The comments from people actually at uni/graduated uni (jimmy, life's hard, pikachu) are all great, I agree with them

Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either uni. Your stereotype about USYD is wrong (you'll only encounter those kinds of people in college, and even then, there are just as many people like that at UNSW).

The main decision should ultimately come down to a) trimesters vs semesters b) distance to the uni

Both are top tier unis, employability is approximately the same, both have good/bad courses, the social life is ultimately down to you and how active you are.

Probably unnecessary, will the advanced studies help you get another job? Probably not. But I think it allows you to double major so that could be helpful

Thanks!! I think you can double major with a straight commerce degree too (correct me if I'm wrong) so yeah advanced studies might be a bit pointless.
