Hey guys,

So one thing that's freaking me out right now is using data to support your argument. My half yearly requires us to write two essays, one one Australia's place in the global economy and the other on our economy of our choice. There are all these trends and stats that we need to memorise, but how do you select the examples that you can tailor to any short-answer/essay question and how do you actually use them? Where do you place them in your responses?

Just pick the ones that are the most crucial, as opposed to roting needless stats. For Australia's place in the global economy, you could look at how protection levels dwindled from 38% in 1968 to currently 1.3%, thereby demonstrating Australia's inclination towards free trade as a result of globalisation. Or maybe talk about the depreciation of our Australia dollar and how that affects our commodity prices (you would insert a stat here regarding Australia's composition of manufacturing exports). Stats/trends are used to backup your theory that is discussed in your essay within your body paragraphs, but it shouldn't be a substitute for your logical progression of ideas.
