Guys what would be the easiest visual techniques to point out, when it comes to a visual. Especially if its black and white :(

Common Visual Techniques

Symbolism

A symbol or picture used to represent something e.g. a heart represents love.

Juxaposition

Positioning subjects side by side to emphasise difference e.g. an elephant positioned near a mouse emphasises a difference in size.

Layout

The arrangement of visuals.

Montage

Content is layered to allow for more content to be positioned in a given space.

Subject selection

The choice of images.

Colour

Technique sometimes chosen to evoke atmosphere or represent mood.

Contrast

Technique used to illuminate differences. Colour and texture are sometimes used in combination with this technique.

If your analysing a movie or a short film on top of the other great advice in this thread it's a good idea to mention camera angles. i.e. close, medium, long camera shots -> all have their own meaning.
