There are a range of sanctions, depending ont he circumstances.

Under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) s91H:

The posession of child pornography carries a maximum 5 year prison sentence.

The production or dissemination of such materials carries a 10 year prison sentence.

You have to realise that a lot of the people that look at child porn are probably more deeply involved than just 'looking' and they get charged with a few more things and get locked up for longer.

There was a case just a few weeks ago in NSW where a man was charged under NSW Law for possession of child pornography (videos) and then also charged under Commonwealth Law for committing pedophilia in another country. The man committing the acts on the video's was him of course, they were his own holiday video's.

Now, he will go away for longer than a year.

Now wouldn't you hate to be a juror on that case.... Jury duty isn't always 'interesting'.

Good point, it makes some changes to the crimes act.

Any type of Ammendment you will notice is very short, it usually just has a commencement and a section saying that its schedule is to be included in the original act. The schedule can say things like: "Replace "or" with "and" ".
