I would have thought Flannery would attract more generous funding anyway, so whats the beef? Plus he's more recognised, considering he's Australian of the Year and all...

awards are very nice, but is that person a good teacher? We'll see :/

I'm hoping he's a good replacement though...

You gotta remember universities, as the upcoming 'review', are based on research primarily, rather than undergrad.

Its a big blow, considering MQ already has a flailing science arm to say the least, (there has been a sustained push for more science for the past few years iirc) so hmm.

Andy was awesome. Cant believe he is leaving. He was hilarious as a lecturer.

As for the science department flailing, i think ELS is one of the most active research centres on campus. Hope it stays the same, as I imagine it will. There are still heaps of prominent people in different fields. Andy just rocked at land surface blah blah blah, random stuff about boring shit no one wants to know.

The end.

Probably should've clarified that I meant flailing in terms of undergrad, as is with most places but probably more in Science at MQ.

The uni can be such a disappointment when it comes to certain areas. It's not like other unis where they don't have x subject, but rather having x subject and just totally letting everybody down.
