Sorry for the 'spam', but what are raw marks and how do they affect atar compared to assessment marks?

Well, your raw internal percentages are meaningless, as they will be moderated by BOS based on your rankings (the percentages only determine relative gaps). Raw external marks are the actual marks you recieve in the final exam, before they are aligned to give you your final exam marks.

In terms of assessment marks, raw marks are the marks you are given by your school in assessments. In terms of HSC exams, it's the mark you get before aligning (or equivocally, "scaling").

Your raw assessment marks are moderated to give your moderated assessment mark; in relation to your ATAR, the moderated assessment mark is your rank in the state for that subject. It contributes to half the value of your raw HSC mark (= raw exam mark + moderated assessment mark) in the ATAR calculation.

I'd say I've made you even more confused now.

1. raw marks are the actual marks you are given by your school or in the external exam

2. raw assessment marks can be adjusted by your school before submission (so long as ranks and relative gaps are maintained) and they will be moderated by the BOS so that they are fair across the state - as the external exam is the only assessment task that all students sit under virtually equal circumstances (some will have air conditioning, others not etc etc) the marks sent in by your school are 'moderated' to these exam marks

3. raw exam marks are the marks you actually get in the exam before any internal scaling or aligning of marks e.g. your raw mark might be 82 but you get told your exam mark is 86 because the raw mark is aligned to 86
