Let's just say that:

ethanol has a HOC of 1367 kJ mol-1 and 29.7 kJ g-1

and Petrolhas [5470 kJ mol-1 47.9 kJ g-1]

what does that mean? is it that petrol releases more energy when you burn it?

Yes, since it releases more energy per gram. However, this is ignoring the fact of how completely it combusts.

O so that means petrol has an advantage over ethanol in this respect?
