What do employers think of UWS? (1 Viewer)

i have some mates who are trying to perduade me not to go to UWS because they think that it is looked down on by the "real world"

is this true....if i am at a job interview and they ask me where i got my degree and i say UWS will they laugh and say cya later?

I had a lot of people telling me that too, but in the end if you go to USYD and just pass, someone who went to UWS and got Ds or HDs will be much more attractive to an employer.

It should make you any less employable, in fact for UWSs law degree it is very practical thus employers dont like it

I actually know people who teach at UWS and also went there and they have good jobs

I dont think it will be a major issue, for me the hard part is for law most big firms want you to go to SYD or NSW

I just think you should go wherever you want and just put the effort in to do well and you should be fine You could always try and suss out what employers think of UWS depending on your career path...what major do u want to do???

Cool You should probably talk to Hiphop, I think he is going to major in Criminology
I think also that UNSW offers a Criminology Degree and its mid 80's I think, but as far as I know UWS and UNSW are the only unis that offer criminology

Nats right on that point Work hard, at any uni, and you'll get a job. A degree is a degree. Choose the uni which accommodates your needs and interests. Infact, they are already lining up jobs for us in second year

the most important thign above all is experience! if you work hard, get relevant experience, network with some contacts, can market yourself to employers etc. you're on the ball.

UWS could not be called a uni if it was not allowed to by the government, thus its teaching has to ber a certian standard and its content also a certain level. most poeple have perpetuated this myth becuase of UWS's history because there was alot of infighting for money, but we are better off now [in some ways, not others].

do what you want, its your choice, im just saying that UWS is not bad, its ok. I wanted to go to UTS coz initially i thougth the same as you, but ive seen many poeple in my school also attend uws and they say its great, close to home, nice atmosphere etc.

I atcually went to UTS open day and a girl who had done UTS Law said "If I were you I'd do it at UWS" when I told her the cutoff was lower she was shocked, she said she wished she had done her degree at UWS... I was shocked

People should seriously stop asking this question lol

employers - well, good employers at least - don't care what uni you went to. They have enough of a brain to realise that marks and experience and personality are far more important than uni

eg if you're a pass student at usyd, an employer will more likely hire a credit average uws student...

your uni doesn't matter - think of it like applying for uni schoralships through UAC during HSC all over again - it's just marks, references and experience that matter - no one cares what school you're at because what matters is if you'll do well for the uni

for crying out loud, yes, every single one of the 27498757847372945 students who attend UWS every year come out of their degree homeless, jobless and have no friends. Because UWS really IS that bad. That's why we pay money to go to it. We like to waste our money and challenge ourselves.
