It plays NO part in the scaling process.

It plays only an indirect role in the MODERATION process.

If your school's assessment marks are 90 89 89 89 89 87 65 60, with you being 87 (and ranked 6/8), you will get a higher moderated assessment mark than if those marks are 90 89 63 62 62 62 62 60, with you being 63 (and ranked 3/8).
