# crypto won't run in 2007
# in 2008 we will run different courses
* most of security engineering will be removed from 3441 and put in a course of its own (SECURITY ENGINEERING)
* 3441 will go into technical details in more depth with the time freed up (tho 2 weeks are lost due to the SAD reduction in the length of a semester)
o more cryptanaysis
o more use of tools
o more detail on topics now currently covered mainly in seminars (eg firewalls, pki, tunnelling)
o more hardcore
o includes forensics
* SECURITY ENGINEERING run as 3uoc course.
o possible: jointly run under a gened code too.
o made low tech and high analysis so open to wider range of people.
* neither are a prereq for each other but both combined would be a strong combination
# also a new ADVANCED SECURITY course 3uoc where students can pick their own project and work on it in a team or solo.
* good projects could morph into a hons project or masters project or phd.
# is this crazy? a new gen-ed "crypto cinema" course where we watch a series of clips and one entire movie each week illustrating security concepts. could be heaps of fun. run it right after the SECURITY ENGINEERING lecture maybe so interested students can hang back and watch too.
