Hi Guys

Could someone please clear up the question that is a double degree more intense because you do 7 years worth of work (in my case engineering and archietcture) in 5 years? Or are the courses reduced in workload to only the necessary units that you need to do, so the workload remained the same?

hi! your chosen uni will undoubtedly have more info and it varies from uni to uni and course to course, but as someone also taking on a double degree (history and physics) over 4 years (as opposed to two 3 year degrees), from what i’ve heard it’s a little more intense than a single degree but organised so that you should have the same workload as everyone else, but it’ll contribute directly to your double degree

as far as i’ve seen, where most single degrees have a course structure with essential units and a lot of elective units to pick from, when you do a double degree you’ll focus more on completing the necessary essential units for each of your majors

that’s what i’ve been able to grasp from universities websites (particularly macquarie, which has a really good double degree builder with course outlines) but casually speaking i know lots of people who do double degrees and they vouch that it can be quite intense because you are doing a lot of work overall but definitely manageable since you’re not necessarily doing all the work going into each degree, which is what allows you to complete a double degree in less time than two separate degrees :)

hope that helps & best of luck with your studies!! architecture and engineering is an awesome combo! ⭐
