What Uni/Courses if I want to work for Lockheed Martin/Boeing (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,

I'm wondering what courses and UNIs I should apply for if I want to get into Lockheed Martin/Boeing or any other company that specialises in military defence mainly aircraft especially fighter jets and missile defence. My ATAR estimate is 97+ I'm assuming Aeronautical has to be one. Any others?

Disclaimer: Yes i know all about the bad job prospects are in Australia and haven't completely ruled out transferring overseas but would like at least semester or two to try it in Australian unis.

Engineering degree is a good start

If you were really interested in fighter jets and missile defence, you should have gone to ADFA. If you see the profiles of lots of the top execs of defence companies, many of them worked for the defence forces early in their careers. Also would have solved your job prospects problem.

But yes, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical would all be good degrees to do if you want to work for them. Maybe go to their websites, and check out some job postings. See what they say about what bachelor's degree they are looking for.

Yeah great advice. I've looked into AFDA UNSW and they offer Engineering in Aeronautical, Mechanical and Electric. I'm just unsure about their post-graduate stuff where you have to work for them for minimum 2 years in airforce at least. I haven't totally ruled it out but it's an option.

Once you graduate from ADFA, you need to work for them for the full length of the degree + 1 extra year. So if you do an engineering degree there (4 years), you'd need to work in the armed forces for 5 years. Tbh this is more a positive than a negative, you get a guaranteed job for at least 5 years (which a lot of engineering grads in the current market would have loved to have). Also puts you in great stead to get a job at a military company, as you actually have a background in military.

But yeah, I see your HSC is in 2016, so maybe go check out the ADFA Open Day this year and see if you like it or not.
