is hubris a side effect of the enlightenment.. or is it the romantic sentiment, Passion, mixed with science?

iirc it's a concept originating from greek tragedy - it's the excessive pride for which a hero is then smitten by the gods. could you contextualise a bit more?

The greeks definitely used hubris, Sophocles in particular is one of the most recognised users. It definitely does not have to be an effect of enlightenment, and can often occur when facts are unknown.
