What colour laser printer is most economical (prints maximum no. of documents for minimum no. of ink catridges) and cheap, with relatively good quality? I just need one that is able to print out documents and medium quality graphics for school work, etc. Not looking for all the extra label-candy, but a connected scanner that can save documents onto the computer or perhaps a connected photocopier would be a bonus. Price range is >$300-500?

Another question, should I wait for a sale or just buy it now because it won't get any cheaper? I don't mind buying a slightly older model on sale.

Thanks for the comments.

Well, I haven't a clue about printers, so I'll talk from personel experience. I've had both a canon and a Lexmark printer, both of which cost a shit load to run. So yeah, take it from there. :shy:

EDIT: My advice, just print and photocopy at school. Although it may not be cheaper, it feels cheaper, and feel is an important human sense. :)

Doubt you'd get a colour printer which would be decent with that price.

You're probably better off buying a mono laser and either paying to get the colour pages printed elsewhere, or get an inkjet for it.

Brother HL-4040cn

for a colour on though (~700?)

Thank you for the comments so far. Printers are eligble for the Education Tax Refund and therefore I can claim back half the cost, so ~$700 would be okay-ish. I was thinking that maybe an older, but good model on sale would be around $500.
