Regarding-

-Twisted pair
-Coaxial Cable
-Optical Fibre

-Radio Transmission
-Microwave Transmission
-Satilite Transmission

The syllabus states:
transmitting and receiving in communication systems
• transmission media, including:
– wired transmission (See Course Specifications Document)
– wireless transmission (See Course Specifications Document)

• characteristics of media in terms of speed, capacity, cost and security.

I've looked at the last few years HSC papers, the only question asked in the last four years is-

Evaluate the suitability of satellite and wireless technology for this system. In your answer, make reference to how these communication media work in comparison to cable media.

I'm concerned that it would be waste of time memorising such detailed hardware... Ideas?

Make sure you know at least the main features of each one. E.g. Satellites use transponders.

You need to be able to apply this knowledge to a scenario.

If you're stuck on an answer take a look at the suggested solution & the marking criteria.

Is this question 24 a. of the 2008 IPT HSC exam?

I'm currently wondering the same thing about the EFTPOS section in my IPT book (by Samuel Davis) page 296-297...
You don't need to know about EFTPOS in such detail.
The syllabus states:
• for given examples, identify the participants, information/data, information technology, need and purpose
• for given examples explain how data is transmitted and received
• for given examples, identify the advantages and disadvantages of the system

So, be able to do the above with EFTPOS.
