Math in Focus, Cambridge Maths, New Senior Maths etc Try searching around forums to see what others have to say. If your school uses a specific one then use that one.

whats the best textbooks
For the HSC Mathematics syllabus, here are the top textbooks that are widely regarded as the best for preparation:

1. Cambridge Mathematics NSW (Stage 6)
  • For Advanced Mathematics and Extension 1 & 2:
    • This series is excellent due to its in-depth coverage of the HSC syllabus, well-structured theory, and a large range of practice questions from easier to challenging levels. It includes step-by-step worked examples, making it useful for self-study.
    • Why it's good: Extensive question sets, HSC-specific content, and clear explanations.
2. Maths in Focus by Margaret Grove
  • For Standard and Advanced Mathematics:
    • This series is highly recommended for its clarity in explanations and structured layout. It breaks down difficult concepts in easy-to-understand language, which is useful if you're struggling with understanding topics.
    • Why it's good: User-friendly, great for visual learners with step-by-step solutions.
3. Fitzpatrick New Senior Mathematics (Advanced and Extension)
  • This book is known for being more challenging and rigorous, catering particularly well to students aiming for high Band 6 scores. It includes comprehensive theory and plenty of hard questions.
  • Why it's good: Ideal for students looking to push their understanding, it includes HSC-style questions and exercises.
4. Success One HSC (Mathematics)
  • These are past paper books with detailed solutions. They provide you with a great opportunity to practice and understand the kinds of questions that have appeared in previous HSC exams, complete with marking guidelines.
  • Why it's good: The best resource for revising with actual HSC past paper questions, combined with explanations.
5. ATAR Notes (Mathematics Standard/Advanced/Extension)
  • These notes and practice guides are designed specifically for HSC students. They break down the syllabus and focus on key concepts and exam techniques. They are concise and to the point, which helps with last-minute revision.
  • Why it's good: It’s easy to digest and highly focused on what you need to know for the exams.
6. Oxford Insight Mathematics NSW for Stage 6
  • This series is designed with HSC exams in mind. It offers deep dives into topics with integrated exercises and clear worked examples, covering both Standard and Advanced levels.
  • Why it's good: A good mix of theory and exercises with exam-style questions.
All of these textbooks offer a good mix of theory, examples, and questions that align closely with the HSC syllabus. For maximising marks, using these in conjunction with past papers and practice tests is a great approach.
