You could use Brave new World by Aldous Huxley,
It's no longer a perscribed text, so there's no danger of overlap.

Isn't it a core text for some Extension English module now?

I'm not sure you can, but in any case, it would be pretty stupid to do so. If you're offering related material, at least have the decency to offer a good one in terms of links and corresponding ideas.

I don't see much correlation between The Crucible and BNW.

And also is it better to avoid using a film as a related text to a play?

As long as you're not studying it for your course, you can use it.
Bullshit. The fact that it's on the EX1 course means that you can't use it for any level of English as a related text. To say nothing of the fact that texts that have previously been on the HSC syllabus are often frowned upon.

There is nothing wrong with using a film as a related to a core text of a play. As for related texts, check the related text thread, pinned.
