Look through the English syllabus, your school should of prescribed/told you what books you'll be studying for.

But on top of my head, you can do..

Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
The Joy Luck Club - Amy Tan
The Hobbit - J.R.R Tolkein
Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll

Most of these are easy sort of reading, unless marked otherwise.

Beyond the Deep Woods - Paul Stewart, Chris Riddle
-Search for belonging, includes aspects of many different sorts of groups, idea of adoption, need for heritage etc

Noughts and Crosses- Malorie Blackman
-Reverses the black vs white thing, so that the black people are those that are in power. Shows the difficult of existing together but apart.

The heart stone Odyssey Chandra's Story - Arvan Kumar
- Another racism piece, but shows belonging in unexpected places

The Mennyms - Sylvia Waugh
- A bit bizarre, but basically a family of rag dolls living together, hiding from normal people but trying to keep on going. How do you belong in a society where you are very different?

Animal Farm - George Orwell
- Nice and short. Basically parodies how we belong in our own society through animals

The gift - Alison Croggon ** A little bit of a tough long read, but loads of good info.**

I'm thinking of reading this one.. Because you've read it... do you believe that it's well worth reading for a belonging criteria?

my sisters keeper by jodi picoult
I loved this book. One thing that came to mind is how unique the style of writing is. I reckon the changing perspectives, and how the same events are told from differing points of view show how the perceptions of belonging vary not only between individuals, but also within individuals (a very solid thesis).

Great choice. :)

The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid (about pakistan and effects on pakistanis after 9/11) (belonging to not belonging contrast)
Doppelganger by Michael Parker (sci-fi) (can really relate belonging to the contrast of the parallel universes)

:) have fun

If you are finding it hard to find belonging in My Sister's Keeper - why did you choose it as a related text for belonging?

Agreed. Always try and pick texts from which you can draw your own interpretations and analysis of belonging from.
