Yeah it's bell-curve scaling, meaning that only a certain % of people get HD's, D's Cr's and etc...lou071 said:is there a thing called 'scaling' in uni as well?
coz i read another post and the person mentioned that
the one subject of his choice scaled him down from getting
HD.
can you give me example for that?TehAzner said:Yeah it's bell-curve scaling, meaning that only a certain % of people get HD's, D's Cr's and etc...
Srs? Never heard of this. I'm pretty sure i've never been scaled a single mark.TehAzner said:Yeah it's bell-curve scaling, meaning that only a certain % of people get HD's, D's Cr's and etc...
For an idea of what is included, a number of Unit of Study outlines can be found here: http://community.boredofstudies.org...ydney/133529/unit-study-outline-exchange.htmlTehAzner said:Usually you'll get a "syllabus" along with your Unit of Study outline for your chosen unit of study. It'll have all the lecturers' names on them as well as contact details/hours. Also you'll get a timeline and when mid-semester exams are (if applicable).
I know that USYD uses the bell-curve to grade students, but i'm not sure about UNCLE.Graney said:Srs? Never heard of this. I'm pretty sure i've never been scaled a single mark.

That only applies to certain subjects, ultimately it's up to the subject co-ordinatordanz90 said:Apparently there are only a certain number of students that are allowed to get above a Pass, in certain subjects.
Eg. in CHEM1611, in 2008, only 42% of Students were allowed to be given a grade of Credit or Above (i.e. Credit, Disinction, Higher Distinction).
does this mean that after 42% of students got credit or above, the people who can get credit or above can't get it coz it is full?danz90 said:Apparently there are only a certain number of students that are allowed to get above a Pass, in certain subjects.

In simple terms, the University policy allows only 42% of students enrolled in CHEM1611 (maybe its like this for other subjects too, I'm not too sure) to receive a final grade of Credit or above. The rest must get Pass or Fail.lou071 said:does this mean that after 42% of students got credit or above, the people who can get credit or above can't get it coz it is full?
what are those certain ourses?
