is there a thing called 'scaling' in uni as well?
coz i read another post and the person mentioned that
the one subject of his choice scaled him down from getting
HD.
Yeah it's bell-curve scaling, meaning that only a certain % of people get HD's, D's Cr's and etc...

can you give me example for that?
so some subjects have low scaling which lower the person from HD region to D region?

I know that USYD uses the bell-curve to grade students, but i'm not sure about UNCLE.

What should I wear to uni?

Do most people use a backpack to carry stuff around?

Am I allowed to smoke at uni?

Is it normal to use a laptop for taking notes in lectures?

(Surprised these haven't come up already to be honest...)

Apparently there are only a certain number of students that are allowed to get above a Pass, in certain subjects.

Eg. in CHEM1611, in 2008, only 42% of Students were allowed to be given a grade of Credit or Above (i.e. Credit, Disinction, Higher Distinction).

That only applies to certain subjects, ultimately it's up to the subject co-ordinator

does this mean that after 42% of students got credit or above, the people who can get credit or above can't get it coz it is full?

what are those certain ourses?

In simple terms, the University policy allows only 42% of students enrolled in CHEM1611 (maybe its like this for other subjects too, I'm not too sure) to receive a final grade of Credit or above. The rest must get Pass or Fail.
