Just how rural are you?

Edit: Do well at uni this year, sit umat and apply to as many med schools as possible, I'll be very suprised if you don't recieve at least 1 interview.

woah hang on, so you can go to UNI and start a course (like med science) and whilst at UNI you can do the UMAT in 7 /8 months time and reapply to get into medicine? however you are still doing a course at a UNI? .... sounds weird.

68 percentile?. I don't think that's possible, unless he/she is rural or an international student.

Yes, most students who miss out first go do exactly what I have said before. As most universities except for Monash and Adelaide accept non-standards (people who have commenced tertiary education).

The only thing stopping you from sitting umat is only if you are at school and not in your final year.

Yeah, an overall of 68 is REALLY good!!! ~ I wish I had that *sigh*

For this year at UNSW, I think you had to have an overall of 50+ for a chance to get an interview and I got less than that -_- OH well! I'm going to try REALLY hard this year...even if I turn into something like this --->:bomb:

UNSW looks at your UMAT and predicted UAI. if you got 100 predicted uai you need about 150+. If you got 95 predicted then u'll need about 220+ (which is 70+).

for other unis you'll need at least 55+ to be considered for an interview (eg. UWS and UNCLE)

I am really worried cause i am deferring so i can sit UMAT. My UAI is 95.55

I am thinking my UMAT will be 50 - 60.

Do i have a chance?

BTW i am the BEST most overly friendly person in interviews. Like at Woolworth they interview me for an hour and teh others only 15 mins. And i have the most shifts out of anybody on my level.

All i need is an interview and i may have it in the bag.

then you should have a good chance with UWS and Newcastle and such where interview takes up a high proportion of final weighting.

also i wouldn't be too sure about the 'overly friendly' bit as interviewers aren't only looking for extroversion but also enthusiasm, knowledge of what medicine involves, evidence of community involvement and also an analytical and incisive mind.

Bottom line is it's possible all undergrad uni's except for u.adel and monash accept non-standards (people who are currently in university).

Most uni's will only require that you to have a GPA (grade point average) from one full year of tertiary study. So that you can apply during your first year of uni. UAC, etc and uni's normally recieve your GPA in late november/early december this is the score that is may be used byuni's instead of your uai for e.g. at UWS and UNCLE which no longer look at your uai and look at your gpa, 5.5 (credit-distinction avg) for UWS and around 5 (credit acg) for UNCLE. However, uni's such as UNSW, UWA, etc use both your uai and gpa (50/50) + your umat score to determine whether you are successful for an interview.

I suggest you look into the Adv Sci scheme at UWS in the UWS Medicine Prospectus, etc. Which only requires you to have a min UMAT of 50% with a GPA of 5.5, however you must be in the top 6 out of 15-20 students.

Yeah, the top 6 are guarenteed interviews however you only get one shot in first year. So yeah it's a bit of a risk especially if you don't want to do Adv Sci or go to UWS, etc.

well that's still better then UNSW where you have to wait until third yr where your against other 200 ppl -_-
and you can always transfer

There are 3 campuses for adv sci, so there are at least 20 ppl as a whole or at each campus? this sounds too good to be true. or are you saying they select the top 20 students and pick the best 6 they like?

I'm really considering putting it as my preference even if it means paying the late application fee lol

Would you know what the cohort is like for first yr? is everyone just wanting to get into med?

There should be a total of around 20 from all the campuses, it might increase to 30 or so this year because of the interview scheme.

Yeah, most of them did want to do med. However, only 6 made the cut for interviews.

If you have any more questions that you would like to ask me or the med school, please reply or PM me before Wednesday night.

Hello,

For the UMAT, if I understand it correctly, you get tested on Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Does this mean that you should've done those subjects at school? What happens if you didn't do them (or didn't do some of them), and you want to sit for the UMAT?

Thanks

No, that's not the UMAT
GAMSAT assesses Bio, Chem and Phys

UMAT is more like a general test of skill (analytics, etc)
