I went and looked at some places, but weren't very happy with most of them. Most places were generally unlivable, unless you were a cockroach.

Welcome to uni life.

I can't even get to newcastle for the next two weeks. So by the time I'm there all the liveable places will be gone. Cockroachville here I come.

Not too bad, there are some nice girls around that area. They hang around the main roads. :uhhuh:

Depends on what you're prepared to pay. Rooms for around $110/week are quite good. Im at the gardens in a 4bd house, and its got timber flooring in all rooms, fully furnished etc. Some of it is luck, and a lot of it is knowing people, but if you're prepared to pay, you should be ok.

If all else fails, you can try for a place in the city, and take the bus to lectures and tutes, and do your work at the City Hub (Uni House). Its pretty good in there, nice building, good facilities etc.

Yeah, it'd be a good place to live if you were keen on drugs and prostitutes.

Lol Islington, the mate I'm living with actually stayed there for a while. I heard some very funny stories. Hopefully everything will work itself out.

That was, in fact, what I was meaning.

...but of course, you knew that. :D

You were too subtle about it though.

Hey,

If it helps anyone i know a number of people that live somewhere around Darby street, which is great for food and the beach. and they travel to uni all the time with no dramas.

Just a thought

I know people from Nelson bay that travel to uni all the time with no dramas.

But yeah, Cook's hill is another ghetto/uni accomodation spot that people should look at.

I really wanted to find a place there, but there were no rooms advertised on the uni website. Unfortunately I was forced to move to boring, crime free suburbs.

I hope that wasn't derogatory because you're not going to gain friends in Newcastle by being negative towards the place.

Stuff gumtree, wouldn't any real estate websites be good enough?

Yeah dude, everyone wants exactly that too.

Go to the newcastle uni website and search for the off-campus accomodation links in the International Students or New Students sections. There are tonnes.

That's all the advice I can give, because you'll be cutting it fine to get in now.

Lol. I was looking on Gumtree the other day and they had a 2bdr fully-furnished apartment near uni, renovated, available for $200 per week.

Then, I realised it was a Nigerian scam. No joke.
