So according to Over-the-phone-Anna I am into Unilodge just awaiting an email...all very unofficial...

So why does everyone think it will end up more expensive? I really hope I get into a 3 room apartment...just a nice number without being 5. Is 5 rooms the cheapest and the 1 room apartment the most expensive? I take it that that is the way it is...

Do you really reckon there is much chance that someone will pull out of a catered hall and we will slip in?

Oh, I am so depressed...did not count on having to cook for the first year lol...
I doubt it. It seems like you've gotten your offer (though just not the email). I presume any remaining offers to any hall/college would go to people who haven't been made any offers, be it UL or otherwise.

Yeah I'm pretty sure 5 is the cheapest and it goes backwards from they're or close to it. I think the Studio single style things are about $350 a week or something like that. B
ut if you's are waiting for offers how does that work coz the contracts start this weekend?

Long post is long.

I got a Johns offer today, anyone else here get Johns? I'm kinda unsure how to accept it, I mean i sent a reply email as requested but that seems awfully easy for such a drawn out process. Is there anything I have to do on the accommodation portal or can i consider myself free from its evil grip?

I got an email this arvo from ANU - cept they were just confirming my RSVP to the pre-departure info evening thing. Apparently the director of accommodation is gonna be there. Maybe I can cry in front of him/her to get a spot somewhere.

Im Allergic, cry for me too. I got an offer for UniLodge for a fucking single studion, like WTF?!?!?!?! Can I afford $12000 or more a year for a 52 week contract not including food and other stuff. I can't believe that I can't even share an apartment like GGRRRRR!!!

I think I might look into Mackillop House, even though that is heaps far away and off campus and GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Maybe I should just bloody defer.
Or not go to uni and become unemployed adding to the skills shortage and lobby to the government that unless they provide some more accomodation at ANU the problem will only increase.

I literally wanted to bash the computer when I read email...cannot believe that after such a stressful wait I get that offer! I WAITED almost like 2 weeks for something I hate and detest and cannot afford and do not want to be a part of.
Way to kill a Friday night:mad1:

Just got an offer for 3 bedroom at unilodge, davey lodge. Annnddd at frist I was a little annoyed and dissapointed, but from the looks of the comments above I seem to have faired pretty well! It says you can organise in advance who you want to be with though, that is to say if people you know also got the same offer... hmm... interesting proposition.

Will do, Emiline. Although, that depends if I'm in a crying or heckling mood. I guess I could always multi-task and do both.

Yeah, I'm one of those people still waiting on an offer... *sigh* At least my weekend's busy and far away from my computer.

I'm fairly certain the university has things set up to help you pay for accommodation, like bursairies and such, maybe accommodation scholarships. Are you able to apply for centrelink? How were you going to pay for any other offer? How much are they anyway? What's the difference? Isn't Johns something like $250 or something?

On a brochure I got at the open day it said Johns was 290 or something. You could probably live on like $50 a week for food. So it isn't that much more.

So who got Unilodge offers?

well the studio thing is 13 odd grand per year, without food. plus there's the wash/drying cost of $3 everytime you do it (not much but it all adds up). then there is the internet charge. johns is around 250 inclusive of all that, and so is Bruce and Ursula if i remember correctly, altho they're like 280 p/w...but still, it ends up being cheaper. and it's a 40 week contract compared to 52.

For those of you that were told you have an offer for UniLodge but have not got an email yet, don't give up hope. Yesterday I was told that I will have an offer from Fenner and would receive the email soon; I ended up getting an offer from Toad Hall.

Maybe if people who got the catered ones pull out you might get an offer there, but I doubt it.

emiline, I can't believe they gave you a studio, that's pretty expensive, contact them and see if you can get a share UniLodge or if they can help with payment.

My set up fees for Toad Hall are $1,165 and its $157 a week, which was cheaper than I was planning for so it's all good I guess.

I have to say though, the whole way the organize the accommodation situation is a bit of a joke, they leave it too late and it all seems very unprofessional.

Good luck to the people who are yet to get an accommodation offer.

I agree, very unprofessionally handled. It seems it was the same way last year. Youi'd think they would have learned their lesson... obviously not.

Oh thanks you guys! Turns out I sent a very restrained email to UniLodge and they Revised my offer and now I am in a 3 Bedroom share room at Kinloch. Anyone going there? Although it only works out about $20 cheaper, I would much prefer to have company and roomies to sort of share cooking and that kind of cost.

Yeah, I really hope that they have some sort of system of bursaries or scholarships. I wonder if there will be opportunities for that kind of thing once we get there. Have the Academic scholarships even come out yet, such as the Regional and Merit ones?

And yes I agree, all of ANU's administration has really killed off the initial excitement at attending one of the country's most prestigest universities. From accomodation to scholarships and enrolment, it certainly leaves alot to be desired lol!

Keep posting on how your processes are coming along!

I'm still with you, cricketfan. If you get an offer before me, don't gloat too much.
