What?! This seams completely ridiculous! There is no way that the school would suspend half of the students! How would classes work! They would make front page news! Show me the rule that says you cannot have a day off :)

You didnt come for the whole day or just until usual classes begin?

The school could suspend half, or all, the grade or entire school, if they had reason to, like all those students did something outlined in the Departments policies for suspension.

But your school's full of shit. I can't see why they'd have the grounds to suspend anyone. If you took the whole day off, wouldn't it just count as any other absent day? It really shouldn't be treated any different. And if you didn't attend during the strike times, there shouldn't be an issue. I mean when the teachers strike, it generally implies they won't be teaching and you won't need to be at school.

If you were suspended it wouldn't stand up.

well remember the school where all the students in year 12 were suspended.

Because of inappropriate behaviour weeks before their final school exams.

So i guess it's possible.

BUT i personally don't think that is reasonable to suspend people because of a day where teachers were striking..
Shouldn't it be treated as any absent day.

By the way, who is "they" ? Your classmates or the school admin.etc.

Tell them you were ill and unaware of the fact that the school required doctor's certificates unless you had an assessment.

The principle would have to be pretty self-righteous to suspend half of the damn school.
