Hi there!

First of all, kindly refrain from flaming me about my question, calling me a gold digger, shallow moron, telling me not to to med for the money, etc. I just have a question that many people have given me different answers for, and here I am!

So how much does a Doctor really earn? How come its so hard to get into medicine - it has to be because it pays well, right? Some people tell me you don't get paid all that much... others tell me if you get in your financial future is set. Which one is it?

Thanks =)

See the attached pdf article. Also see a recent NSW Health notice regarding the staff specialist state award (I still don't fully understand the respective allowances and levels).

thats after they spend at least 6 years with sub-100k salaries 5-6 years PGY in hospitals. and pre-vocational + vocational training is no walk in the park

that said doctors still get paid very decently but that shouldn't be the only reason you do med because you will end up very dis-satisfied when you look at IBers, accountants and actuaries coming out of uni in as little as 3 years and earning a lot more than what you do straight out

My cousin, who is a registered GP, only makes $80 a day.

$100 on a really good day.

Don't know if it varies with specialisation. I'll ask him.

I went to the UNSW open day and talked to a doctor who works in one of the teaching hospitals nearby. He said that if you want lots of money without working too hard or being passionate about your job, be a plumber. :)
Graduates do get a pretty good starting rate though, probably because, if you do undergraduate, you start getting paid as an intern after 4th year. I think at the moment id prefer job security to a massive wage. Course, this is if you do undergrad.

There is no way the average salary for a fully qualified solicitor (post articles) or barrister is 36 K. LOL you go through 5 yrs of Law school + PLT and on job training to earn as much as a fucking shop assistant? I'm surely thinking that the comment regarded graduate salaries, surely...
