i'm going to cut out med schools since there's really no point comparing them between unis. med is med, so to speak. for everything else:

USYD: sciences, law and arts
UNSW: business, engo, maths, law
MQ: actuary, accounting and other business related
UTS: IT, nursing, arts (english, pomo-ish things)
ANU: arts (asia-pacific especially), law, science (PhB)
UWS: nursing and something else i cnt remember

This area is kind of irrelevant really.

Considering the Big 4 are looking more towards B.Eng students and the like. Regardless, I think UNSW are higher placed than Mac for Commerce/Accounting. I think you might be thinking of Actuarial Studies.

UNSW does not have the upper hand in maths. If you want to do anything in algebra, USyd is the best option. Analysis, it would be UNSW. There is no uni that is good at every discipline in maths in Australia.

can you explain how psychology can at all be seen as an arts course? i think you can do arts majoring in psych at macq and i just dont see how arts and psych relate

Nah UNSW Med = greatest in NSW.
Usyd's alright too, but it's postgrad.

Therefore best undergrad med in NSW = UNSW.

Also UNSW is prolly one of the top for Med in Australia. ^^

you can pretty much doing arts anywhere and major in psych. it's so ridic popular that unis give lots of pathways for doing psych (e.g. bpsych, ba-psych, bsci-psych, liberal studies at usyd), or at least, that's my understanding.
