The Greens and Xenophon voted for, as they secured tens of millions in funding for education on harm minimisation. Fielding (last I heard) voted against because Labour didn't ban alcohol ads during sports shows on TV.

He's a bit of a tool.

The other bills currently being crammed through before the 7 week Senate break are:
- The environmental "protection" scheme, which Greens and the Coalition oppose (and Xenophon too from memory), meaning it'll very likely fail, which could trigger an early election.
- Fixing workplace relations after Howard skullfucked them. The Greens support it as they got extra provisions for parents, while Xenophon won't support it until more coverage for small businesses is added, and Fielding wants something else along similar lines to the Greens and Xenophon. Basically, because the Opposition can't be relied on, the bill will probably get even more provisions added that protect the worker, which is ironically the opposite of what the Opposition wants.

In other news, the Greens, Xenophon, and the Nationals all seem to be strongly against the Chinese communist government's attempted mini-takeover of Australia's (and the World's) biggest mining company, Rio Tinto. Enough people from Labour and Liberal (namely Costello) are also against it, as is public sentiment, that'd it'll be a massive stain on the government's record if they let it go ahead. I'm praying they won't. Currently, the government has put off the decision for another 90 days.

In other other news, the Internet filter is dead in the water, as it is at best tied in the Senate, with the Greens, Xenophon, and Liberals against it. Even if the Nationals voted for it (which seems unlikely), it'd fail. Ties in the Senate mean the bill automatically fails.
opposition can't be relied on? They have said they will support the bill if the small businesss threshold is raised, and this is far less than what all the crossbenchers are asking for. It's all just gillard trying to lock them out

dont know for sure, but the consitution says that the acting speaker is to perform the duties in the absence of the speaker. so it probably follows that if the speaker is in the house, he can only be in there as the speaker, not a regular member. So I'd say he probably can't vote while there is an acting deputy speaker.

This rebel Priest is beyond outrageous. He's just hell-bent on trashing the Church in whatever blunt and fumbling way he can. It's unforgivable that the ABC let him vomit over the greatest asset of this country, with only a politically compromised shadow minister there to defend it

I appreciate that the idea of not judging others is fairly loosely enforced in the catholic church but this is where I draw the line. He believes in the Lord, he loves the lord and he has dedicated his life to the god of catholicism and has risked alot for what he believes is God's desire. This is the point where I say if you call yourself a catholic you don't get to decide hether he is a saint or a demon, you don't get to pass judgement and still parade your own piety. As the politically compromised shadow minister put it, you are a sanctimonious windbag.

I dont care about your anti-Catholic views on Catholicism, Lentern. Likewise with this inarticulate Priest.
That's what the Church is all about! Submit or gtfo! There is no room for this divisive dissent, and rightfully so. The guy clearly has a massive ego and desires for himself to be worshiped, rather than Christ - he even denied that Christ is God! The Q&A website was flaming with Christians, outraged that no opposing speaker was offered and he was allowed to say any anti-Catholic slogan and get an applause. Abortion is fine, the Church is sexist, condoms are good, life is not sacred, Christ was just some guy, the Church needs democracy - miiiindless heresy
etc

I'm just outraged because every other week, the program goes out of its way to put on some token Muslim rep that no one has heard of and who has zero relevance to mainstream society

Tony is a grub, my least favorite front bencher.

But I was extremely impressed by his Q&A appearance. Walked all over a hopeless, floundering Kate Ellis.

You don't get to tell someone who believes in god, who loves god, who devotes their life to god that they are a traitor to the church. Go read your bible Iron, you do not judge, certainly not the validity of a claim to be a follower of god. You judge, you envy, you lie and yet you arrogantly go around proclaiming free thinkers and moral objectionists, those who brought about massive changes in the church in the first place, this infallible institution which you will not hear a word against that has evolved drastically. You can't ignore the bible when it suits you then lambast him for using that beautiful mind that god blessed us with, you don't get to do both Iron. I leave you now with this

He seeks only to make the church a accomodate for those who want it to be more about god and the people who love him. What is so wrong about that.

85% of people who nominate as catholic on the census don't go to church (iirc the show correctly). Kids leaving catholic schools pretty much all say farewell to the church forever.

You're the violin player on the titanic. Or maybe it's better to say you're the captain, completely sure of your direction, yet a hopeless drunk.

Lentern, how disrespectful!

It's God, with a capital 'G'.

I see six words that need to be edited, or I'll have no choice but to report this post as showing utter disrespect. You have been warned.

:)
