^ I had a laugh as well

Imraan Khan averages 38 in first class and made a tonne against the aussies in the warm-up match. Will play the slow and steady knock alongside Prince.

Herschelle?

Playing in their ODI side.

And wow, thats a packed schedule. Not to mention the extra tour games just before the Ashes and then also Twenty20's and what not.

Wonder how the team will pull up after this year.

They could've really used North.

Prince and Khan look solid.

By my count, McGain needs to take ~7/0 to be respectable.

He's had his chance. Fuck him off.

100+ from 11 overs (with 2 maidens) is an absolute fucking disgrace. Good to see that our best hope as a spinner is going at ~10 runs an over!
Katich, Clarke, North is all that has to be said.

McGain is not required.

I feel your pain dude.

Worse still, he's managed those figures from a Test match.

re: The Official Cricket Thread

Pffft. Took how many tests for Ponting to realise he could bowl Katich? fucking fail captaincy.

Selectors need to man up and drop underperforming players. Bye bye Clarke, Hussey, McDonald.

We don't need an all-rounder, we've got Johnson. Which frees up another spot for a fast bowler. Probably a swing bowler like Hilfy, because the swing should reign supreme in England for the Ashes.

But no. We'll stick with the idiots who have proven that they are out of form, because they are the incumbants and we couldn't possibly lose to England!
Clarke is definitely not out of form and has been one of the star players in both the home series against RSA and NZ, He has been averaging 60 against the Proteas and with 3 50's and the solid 100 in Sydney, I'd say he's not out of form. Drop Hussey for Hodge, Drop McDonald for Bollinger and Drop McGain for Clark and if he's not fit North for the Ashes series.

McGain has to be one of the worst choices the selectors could have made.

I was thinking this from the outset when his name was mentioned, even before the SA tour, but figured i'd give it a chance and see how he went.

Well done son.

7/615

ADV is 154*
Strategy for SA?

Keep on batting today and push for 800+ to bat Aus completely out of the game, and then go for the kill?

All I know is we're screwed, McGain, McDonald need to be the first to go. Siddle and Johnson need to be rested all the way until the Ashes series, otherwise we'll struggle over there too.

What's going on in the selectors minds?

re: The Official Cricket Thread

Team I'd like to see go to England:-

Katich (c)
Hughes
Rogers
Hodge
Ferguson (sp?)
Haddin
Johnson (all-rounder position)
Krejza
Siddle
Harwood/Clark (if he even gets fit)
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

Fight it out between Harwood/Clark and Bollinger for 12th man. Krejza may seem to have been destroyed when he took 8/2xx, but having bowled ~45 overs, he didn't go too badly (5.xx rpo), and unlike the other spinners trialed thus far, actually looked dangerous.
Why Hodge and Rogers?

I'd like to see:

Katich
Hughes
Ponting (c)
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Krejza
Siddle
Johnson
Clark
Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

Clarke and North also for their part-time bowling.

thats a good side imo... has the balance even if not playing krejza...which i doubt they will for the entire series

norths offies arent to be sneezed at... 6/69 or something in the tour match against the pres. XI is a good sign..

re: The Official Cricket Thread

I guess the McGain experiment has failed.

IMO for the next few months, drop McGain and McDonald, bring in North and another paceman. What do you reckon the attack should look like when Lee and Clark come back? North, Clarke and Katich can handle spin duties between the 3 of them. Quite a bit of variation in there as well. North's right arm offies, Clarke's left arm offies and katch bowls left arm wrist spin.

6 batsmen, plus
Johnson
Lee
Clark
Siddle

Or interchange either lee or clark for Hilfenhaus (he'll do well with the swing in england...or so i've heard).

edit: oh yeah, forgot about bollinger, well i guess it depends how lee and clark look like when they return. I guess we'll have quite a bit of depth in the pace department.
